R4 ZONING REVIEW

The City of Ottawa is proposing amendments to the Official Plan that will restrict the number of bedrooms in certain types of buildings, including single family houses (“oversize dwelling unit”) permitting up to eight bedrooms, while non-single units (like a house, apartment or condo) permitting only four bedrooms or less. Also included in the amendments are updated definitions to terms like “bedrooms”, “residential units”, and “single housekeeping units”, in addition to greater clarity on garbage management for residential buildings with total floor area exceeding 400 m².  This is primarily to deal with residential conversions in central Ottawa but the bylaw will also apply in Kanata.
