There are 15 locations across the City, including three in Kanata North, that met the warrants for a crossing guard but none had been provided due to the 2018 budget for guards being used up. I undertook to find funds to get them approved, drafting a motion and then checking it with staff. Unfortunately it was made clear that the 2018 Council can’t approve a budget addition that would be a commitment on the next Council. After further discussion staff agreed that I could make a formal written inquiry at our Council meeting to have staff put forward options to the new Council in December that would enable these crossing guards to be hired early in 2019, prior to the 2019 budget being approved in March. This has been done so I’m hopeful the new Council it will move forward quickly in December to approve the necessary funds.
