The City seeking public input on commemorative naming proposals – two are in Kanata North. Click here for more information.
Lyndall Winters Trail – (Ward 4 – Kanata North)
In recognition of the excellence, courage and exceptional service to the citizens of Ottawa as well as the extensive community service record of Mr. Lyndall Winters, a proposal to name a portion of the Richardson Ridge Recreational Trail system in Kanata North in his honour has been submitted to the Commemorative Naming Committee. Over the course of his 35-year career with the RCMP, Mr. Winters bore security responsibilities for Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau and Queen Elizabeth and served as chief security head for the 1976 Montreal Olympics. Following retirement, Mr. Winters pursued his passion for nature by adopting Fentiman Park, serving as the Vice President of Environment with the Kanata Lakes Community Association and patrolling local pathways, with his “litter stick” in hand, collecting garbage.
Susan Ruth Finch Meeting Room – (Ward 4 – Kanata North)
In recognition of the exceptional community service record of Ms. Susan Ruth Finch, a proposal to name a meeting room within the John G. Mlacak Centre in her honour has been submitted to the Commemorative Naming Committee. As a long time resident of Kanata North, Ms. Finch developed strong ties to her community while teaching ceramics classes at the John G. Mlacak Centre. Susan demonstrated charisma and warmth as she helped residents explore their creativity within the same meeting room.
