An 8-acre site at Terry Fox and the Old Second Line is being prepared so that it could be used for an elementary school. This involved removing trees from a portion of the site so geotechnical work can be undertaken and a site plan prepared. Part of the site is being retained as natural forest tor future students to undertake environmental studies. This site is within an approved draft subdivision approved by Council in 2003 and is already zoned for a school. April 15th was the deadline for tree removal in order not to interfere with bird nesting. Under the City’s wildlife strategy, nesting boxes are being placed in locations for small mammals to use and openings left for larger animals to relocate. Once the subdivision is built, this school will be in a residential area.
Tree removal has also commenced between Earl of March High School and Campeau Drive for construction of an addition of 24 rooms plus gymnasium for Grade 7 & 8 students. Construction will be underway this summer.
