The City of Ottawa is excited to announce a Street Painting Pilot Program. A street painting is a mural painted with traffic grade paint at an intersection or between intersections on low-traffic residential streets. Street Paintings promote community building and “placemaking” through neighbourhood art, and may have traffic calming benefits. Street painting encourages neighbours to be actively involved with public space resulting in more welcoming and liveable communities.
Interested residents should find a core group of neighbours who are interested in working collaboratively on a street painting project in their neighbourhood. Projects must be resident-driven and provide opportunities for all members of the community to participate.
The City of Ottawa will consider requests from residents for Street Painting with some restrictions. All requests are subject to City approvals, bylaws and requirements. Please contact my office for an application package (Marianne.Wilkinson@Ottawa.ca).
All residents interested in seeing a Street Painting project happen in their neighbourhood are encouraged to contact the Neighbourhood Connection Office before applying.
Application Deadline for 2014 projects is April 1, 2014.
