The City of Ottawa continues to warn residents to be vigilant of door-to-door salespeople making false claims about the quality of City drinking water.
The City has received several complaints from residents who have been contacted by salespeople of water-filtration or treatment systems and provided incorrect information pertaining to water quality. The City reminds residents that Ottawa’s drinking water is completely safe and of the highest quality, which is ensured through rigorous and ongoing testing.
The 2012 Drinking Water Quality Management System Annual Report, which was received by City Council in June, confirms that the drinking water delivered to City residents exceeds all federal and provincial health-based water-quality guidelines and standards.
The City of Ottawa is committed to protecting public safety, including protecting homeowners and residents from fraud. The City ensures that all of its employees carry City-issued photo identification to be presented upon request. Except for emergency situations, any visits that may require access to homes or businesses by City staff are scheduled in advance. Any resident who is directly contacted by a person claiming to work for or on behalf of the City of Ottawa is asked to check their identification and, if concerns remain, to contact the City by calling 3-1-1 (613-580-2400).
