City of Ottawa Forestry Services’ spring planting program is scheduled to begin next week and will run until the end of June. This includes tree planting in parks, at City facilities, and along streets . Where a tree planting is scheduled on City property adjacent to a residence, individual notifications will be provided to the resident in advance of planting. Residents should also expect to see utility locate flags and paint on the ground prior to planting. In addition to these trees, the following community tree planting will occur in your ward this spring:
May 11, Briarbrook Brookside Morgans Grant Community Association. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED.With the support of the City of Ottawa and Mississippi Valley Conservation, the BMGCA (Briarbrook and Morgan’s Grant Community Association) will be planting a riparian corridor along the Shirley’s Brook stream bed at Maxwell Bridge Road and March Road.
Where to meet: 10am – 11:30am on Maxwell Bridge Road, behind Trinity Commons (Sobeys) at the “bridge” over Shirley’s Brook. OC Transpo Bus Route 93, (KLONDIKE / MARCH (1492)). Parking available in shopping plaza at 854 March Road.
What to bring: Sturdy shoes or boots, long pants and shirt, work/gardening gloves, a shovel if you have one, and your energy and enthusiasm. Dress appropriately for the weather.
What we will be planting: Approximately 200 native trees and shrubs, including Red Maple, Hackberry, White Spruce, Serviceberry, Dogwood and Pussy Willow, plus many other species!
